States

Gardening guides for all 52 US states. Each gives the hardiness zones the state spans and how its ZIP codes divide between them, the spread of freeze dates across every NOAA station inside it, a spring calendar built from those stations, and the tools to work out your own dates.

What a state page can and cannot tell you

Not one of these 52 states falls inside a single hardiness zone. The narrowest, the District of Columbia, spans two; Alaska spans 16. So no page here states "the zone in" anywhere — each gives the split across zones by ZIP code instead, because picking the largest and rounding everyone else into it is wrong for most of the state.

These pages place 33,475 ZIP codes, about 83% of the 40,502 in the dataset. The rest are PO boxes and single delivery points, which the Census publishes no ZIP-code area for at all — so there is nothing to put them in a state with. Their hardiness zone still stands, and the hardiness tool answers all 40,502 of them.

For a tighter answer than a whole state, the 388 metro area pages cover the same ground at a finer grain — and every state page lists the metros inside it.
